Oyama Shrine attracted by stained glass Kanazawa, Ishikawa

Oyama Shrine is dedicated to Lord Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of the Kaga domain, and his wife, Omatsu no Mata. It is also designated as a national important cultural property. It is conveniently accessible, so please stop by. It is one of my favorite places to visit whenever I come to Kanazawa.

You must see this

The stained glass windows on the top floor of the gate are so beautiful that when one hears of Oyama Shrine, this gate is the first thing that comes to mind. The best time to visit is in the evening, when the sun’s rays illuminate the stained glass even more beautifully. The gate is also tinted orange, creating a different atmosphere than during the daytime.

It is also illuminated from sunset to 10:00 p.m., so you can visit once when it is bright and again at night to enjoy the difference. When I visited at night, it was after rain, so it was very impressive.

The shrine is set back a little from the main street, so the headlights of cars and the lights of the city do not interfere with its presence.
The shrine can be seen from the bus, so I always take a look at it as I pass by. It is truly a symbol of Kanazawa.

There is much more to see besides the shrine gate. The garden is also beautiful, and is called the “Garden of Musical Instruments” because the islands and bridges in the pond are named after gagaku (ancient Japanese court music).

Personally, I am always curious about this object and come back to see it every time. The expression and movement of the golden frog is adorable.
